I am glad to see this review up here! I found out about Esther’s work last fall and have since taken her class GM 101 and read 8 Steps. Through these tools, I learned how to get rid of my own back pain and RSI and how to use my body much more naturally and effectively. Though it has become habit now, I am constantly reminded of my growth as other people comment on ‘how straight I am sitting’ and other such things.
The book is excellent and full of enlightening images of her Anthropologically Informed posture methods. Esther observed that large populations around the world do not have back pain, arthritis, neck pain, RSI, disk herniations and other such common troubles in our culture. She noticed that they moved and sat in fundamentally different ways, using different muscles to do tasks like walking and lifting. And it isn’t just people in other cultures around the world – every baby in America has structure and habits like these other cultures. Her premise is that we have trained ourselves to be very fragile creatures, in a very unnatural way, unbefitting to the human race. Her method is an insightful and intuitive approach to a more natural (and durable) structure and to useful ways of bending, walking, lifting, etc…
I have really benefited from her work and I know many others have as well. If you have back pain, or any repetitive stress injury (that’s what mainly brought me to her), or many other pains and injuries, or want to avoid them I would highly recommend her method!
